Outdoor Family Portrait Session; Loughborough Park
A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of photographing Jill, Adrian and their two gorgeous grandsons. It has recently been both Jill and Adrian’s 70th birthday, so as a present for them their wonderful daughter Karen brought them a portrait family photography session to have with me. Karen currently lives in Ireland so she booked the session for them and was hoping to be able to make it to the viewing appointment. Jill got in touch so we booked in the portrait session and we booked in the viewing/ordering session appointment too, we worked it around Karen being back over, I didn’t want Karen to miss out on seeing the images.
We decided to do the portrait photography session at Loughborough Park, Loughborough, Leicestershire. I love photographing at Loughborough Park, it is such a beautiful location, with lots of different sections and lots of space to it. When I spoke to Jill she did tell me that one of her grandsons were thought to be ADHD, which is completely fine with me. I work with lots of different children each year. I have experience in working with children who have ADHD or things like Autism. It doesn’t matter if a child has ADHD or not they are still brilliant to work with and just at wonderful to photograph as well as being so much fun!
The outdoor family portrait session was just brilliant. Both children were wonderful. We got some stunning images of them both and all four of them too. Children aren’t always used to having a professional take their photograph so at first, I always talk to them and get to know them a little before we do any photos. This way they can then be used to me and understand what I’m there to do. I always try to have fun on my outdoor portrait sessions, being outdoors it makes it so much more natural than a studio environment. Outdoors you can take a picnic, a football, you can have ice-cream, kids can run around and I can just be at a distance from them to capture some natural portraits. For this session, we do a lovely mixture of portraits, everyone together, just the boys together, each little monkey separate and also Jill and Adrian together – for this one they kissed and the boys were disgusted and pulled faces as boys do when grandparents have a kiss.
The boys were promised ice-cream after the session if they were good and they were indeed. They didn’t really grumble too much, we moved to different parts of the park to get some different images of everyone. Towards the end of their portrait session, we changed the boy’s tops as Jill brought with her the boys baseball tops that they were brought for them from America. The lads in these tops were a surprise image for their Aunty Karen who had paid for the portrait session for them. It was Karen that had brought the tops for the lads, so Jill wanted to do this photo for her as a surprise. I also had promised the lads that after we had done all the nice portraits that we could do some silly portraits. Kids always love pulling funny faces at the camera so we did some and boy did we get a good family silly portrait, I couldn’t stop laughing. The whole portrait session was just fantastic, I was laughing a lot – which is surprising as usually, I’m saying cheese or something so people smile. At one point when I was doing the portraits of just the boys together to make them both smile or laugh together, I did tell them to say on three ”boggies”, now I know this is a little naughty and I did tell them not to shout it too loud because there were a few people around but the kids love it.
What a brilliant outdoor family portrait photography session it was. I can’t wait to meet up with them again to capture some more family memories.
