Hello lovelies,
I thought this week I would give you an insight as to how I get kids to smile for their portrait photo. Your children are precious! Their your world; you want beautiful photos of them to show off and be proud of. I love photographing children, each one having a great personality.
There’s a saying ”Don’t work with kids” – Why? There’s nothing wrong with kids, in fact I think we’d all love to be kids again so we have nothing to worry about, no bills to pay along with all the other adult stuff we do. I love kids; I am one of eight children – my parents have been married for 36years and had eight children together. As you can imagine my house is always fun; because I’m from a big family I’m generally always around children and babies and find that I’m probably a big kid myself.
When you book in for your portrait photography session with me the first couple of minutes I get to know the kids. They need to feel involved and they don’t just want someone telling them to smile because well they won’t … its what kids do; tell them not to throw their dinner on the floor and they will do it because you’ve told them no so they always do the opposite. With this in mind this is why I get to know them before we start taking any pictures. I like to get down to their level, ask them their name, how old they are, what year their in at school, if they like school as well as many other questions so they know they can talk to me. I also sometimes, especially the little ones let them play, I let them just sit down and play with the blocks and I play with them so they know its ok! Sometimes we sing or we dance … whatever is needed to make little one happy and at ease for their portrait photos – if I need to do ”row row row the boat” then I will so I can get the best images for you and natural images!
See you soon – Sophie, x
